Terms of service

These terms govern use of the Champ application. Installing Champ on a Shopify store means accepting them.

The service#

Champ provides community forum software served into a Shopify merchant's storefront through Shopify's App Proxy, together with a merchant dashboard and a JSON API. Features may be added, changed or removed over time; material removals are announced in advance by email.

Your account#

You are responsible for activity under your store's dashboard, for the credentials you enter into it (SMTP, Cloudinary, Akismet, API secrets), and for keeping those credentials confidential. Tell us promptly if you believe an API secret has been exposed and we will help you rotate it.

Fees#

Champ costs $29 per month, charged through Shopify's billing and appearing on your regular Shopify invoice. New subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial that begins when you approve the plan; no charge is made during the trial, and cancelling before it ends costs nothing. Subscriptions are prepaid monthly and are not prorated: cancelling partway through a billing period ends access at the end of the period already paid for, with no refund of the remainder. Prices may change with at least 30 days' notice by email.

Your content#

Forum content belongs to you and to the members who wrote it. We claim no ownership of it. You grant us only the licence needed to host, transmit, back up and display that content in order to operate the service.

You are responsible for what is posted in your forum: for moderating it, for complying with the law where you and your customers are, and for the privacy notices your customers are shown. Champ gives you moderation tools; it does not moderate on your behalf.

Acceptable use#

Do not use Champ to host content that is unlawful, that infringes someone else's rights, or that exists to distribute malware or spam. Do not attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service or to another merchant's data. We may suspend a store that is doing any of these, and will explain why.

Availability#

We work to keep Champ available and back the database up nightly, but the service is provided without an uptime guarantee. Planned maintenance that requires downtime is announced in advance where practical.

Termination#

You may uninstall or unsubscribe at any time from inside the app. We may terminate an account for a material breach of these terms, for non-payment, or if required by law, giving notice and a chance to fix it where the situation allows.

Liability#

To the extent the law permits, Champ is provided "as is", and our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
