Customer Support Forum for Shopify Stores
Updated 5 November 2026
Many store owners answer the same questions every week: sizing, setup, care, delivery, which product to choose. A support forum lets you answer each question once, in public. The next customer with the same question finds the answer without emailing you.
How a support forum saves time#
- Answer once, help many. An email answer helps one customer. A forum answer helps every
customer who reads it later.
- Customers answer each other. Regular customers often know your products well, and they
like to help. Over time, they answer many questions before you do.
- Answers are easy to find. Customers can search the forum. Google can also find public
answers, so customers sometimes find the answer before they think of contacting you.
- You see what confuses people. The questions that come up again and again tell you which
product pages, sizes or instructions need work.
A forum does not replace email for private matters, such as an order number or a refund. Use it for questions where the answer helps other people too.
What to set up#
A simple support forum needs three or four forums. For example:
| Forum | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Before you buy | Questions about choosing, sizing and comparing products |
| Setup and use | How to set up, use and care for what customers bought |
| Problems | When something does not work as expected |
| Announcements | News from you. Only you and your moderators post here |
Use tags for product names, so customers can see every topic about one product on one page.
Settings that help a support forum#
- Let customers follow topics. Members get an email when a topic or forum they follow has
new posts, so the person who asked sees the answer. See email and notifications.
- Turn on upvotes. The most useful answers rise, so readers find them faster.
- Pin the most common questions to the top of each forum.
- Lock old topics when the answer is final, so they stay tidy.
- Get an email for posts that wait for approval, if you approve new members' posts.
- Send forum emails from your own address, so customers recognise them. The
email guide shows how.
Who answers#
At the start, you answer most questions. Answer quickly and fully: the first answers set the tone. Then:
- Reward helpful members. Members earn points for posts and for upvotes. The
leaderboard shows who helps most.
- Make your best helpers moderators. Add the customer tag
champ-moderatorin Shopify. They
can manage posts on the forum, with no access to your Shopify admin. See moderation.
Link the forum where customers look for help#
- Add Help or Community to your store's main menu.
- Link to the forum from your contact page, with a line such as "Most questions are already
answered in our forum."
- Add a link to your order confirmation and shipping emails.
- Turn on the optional Community button in your theme editor, under App embeds.
Keep spam out#
A public support forum attracts spam. Champ checks every new post for spam automatically. If spam still gets through, you can approve new posts first, slow down posting, or connect Akismet. The anti-spam guide explains what to turn on and when.
